New to driving? Start with a foundation in road rules, everyday decisions, and guided practice. Segment 1 brings classroom learning and driving instruction together.

Students must be at least 14 years, 8 months old to begin Segment 1.

How long does it take?

Classroom instruction spans at least three weeks. Confirm the full session calendar and driving appointments with Zoomers.

What is required to finish?

Complete the required instruction and observation, and pass the Segment 1 state exam with at least 70%.

What happens after Segment 1?

After completing the course, apply for a Level 1 learner’s license through Michigan’s Secretary of State with a parent or guardian. This begins the next stage of supervised practice.
